This article on foreign adoptions came out this past week in the Wall Street Journal. It is no surprise to the American adoption community. For a variety of reasons (some good, some cruel) a number of foreign countries have taken steps to keep their orphaned children from being separated from their home country and culture. But for prospective adoptive parents this is a punch in the gut. I remember well when my wife and I turned to adoption only to face similar statistics. For a time it seemed we might never be parents, but we got incredibly lucky. Many adoptive parents are not so lucky, waiting years to have their family.
