Back To Plan A

Those of you who follow my blog know that I’ve been trying to get a book published, The Girl Behind The Door. I had an agent – herself an adoptee – who tried valiantly for over 6 months to find a publisher without success. It was hard for the typical publisher to connect with a special interest story. I was disappointed but not surprised. So back to Plan A – self publish!

My goal is to have the finished product available online (amazon, Barnes & Noble) in paperback and eBook by the end of January, which would be the 6th anniversary of Casey’s death.

So stay tuned!

  1. That’s great news, John. I mean, it stinks that you guys didn’t have any luck finding a publisher, but I’m glad your story will make its way out there regardless. Looking forward to reading it.

  2. I want to encourage you with the self publishing. Amazon/CreateSpace make it very easy. It’s hard to market but you can do it with your blog. There are pay your way publishers but I’m not sure they are much better and they cost a lot more money.

  3. Have you considered looking into Indiegogo or Kickstarter? These sites are for raising money for such goals as self-publishing a book, which might not be the way for you to go. You should promote your story on various social networks to connect with individuals who would be interested in buying and supporting your book. I had friends told me (mostly art majors) that internet makes self-publishing a viable option. A big-name book publisher does help get your name out there, but so can your peers online. I’m wishing you the best always.

    • Thanks. Yes self publishing has come a long way. I have a self described “midwife” helping me through the process. We expect to have it out by end Jan, the sixth anniversary of Casey’s death.

  4. I do consider all the concepts you have presented for your
post. They’re really convincing and can certainly work.

Still, the posts are too brief for beginners.
Could you please extend them a little from next time?
    Thank you for the post.

    • Sure but I try to keep these posts fairly brief. My memoir will be out in the next few days where I have my full story and much more about what I heard from the experts. But since I’m not a professional, and can only share my own experience rather than dispense advice, I encourage people to peruse my Resources page where I share all of the books, articles, websites, professionals and organizations I came across in my journey.
